July 15, 1992|From Times Staff and Wire Reports

GM Shuffles PR, Marketing: The auto maker realigned its corporate public relations and marketing divisions, moving many key functions to its newly created North American Operations organization. The shuffle is part of a program announced in December to eliminate at least 9,000 white-collar jobs at General Motors by year end. Seventy percent of the 13,500-member corporate staff will be eliminated, but about half those jobs will end up in the North American unit. GM said no layoffs are planned.
