Monrovia : Yard Sale Fine Approved

San Gabriel Valley Digest

July 23, 1992

Residents who have yard sales without first obtaining a city permit will be subject to a $20 fine under a new policy approved Tuesday.

The City Council also voted to increase the fee for the permit from $1.50 to $2.

Community Development Director Donald Hopper said that during the summer months there is a proliferation of yard sale signs placed illegally on utility poles and trees. It costs the city between $150 to $200 a week to have a staff member remove the signs, Hopper said.

Residents who buy permits are warned not to post their signs on public property and usually abide by that regulation, he said.

The new fine will go into effect in January, 1993.
