Kolts Report on L.A. Sheriff Dept.

August 02, 1992

So when is a commission going to be convened to critique and recommend changes and guidelines to L.A.'s violent street gangs and assorted criminals? (Or is the media going to continue to make folk heroes out of them)? L.A.'s cops are trying to do a thankless and dangerous job in a violent society. Not everybody is going to appreciate their efforts (i.e., criminals) and the results are sometimes not too pretty.

I've been with the Sheriff's Department for more than 11 years. Contrary to the Kolts report and the articles in your paper, while our society may be running amuck, this department is not. Most assuredly, the deputies who truly abuse their duties need to be objectively and fairly dealt with, and I think they are.
