Glendale : Ride-Sharing Up 6.2%

August 06, 1992

Ride-sharing by the employees of companies that belong to the Glendale Transportation Management Assn. increased 6.2% in the past year, the organization reported.

Currently, slightly more than 25% of the approximately 16,000 employees of the association's 35 member companies either car-pool, van-pool, take the bus, walk or bicycle to work, said Jeanne Olwin, the association's executive director.

The nonprofit association was founded in 1989 to help local businesses with their ride-sharing programs. It matches employees with car pools and van pools through a regional ride-sharing database, and provides bus passes for sale to employees at their work sites.

The association is funded mostly by membership fees and is open to any business in the Glendale area with five or more employees.
