Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt (KCET Sunday at 1 p.m.). Jeffrey Friedman and Robert Epstein's Oscar-winning 1989 documentary confronts us with the reality of AIDS with such simplicity and directness that it is hard to imagine how the enormous tragedy of this disease could be expressed with greater impact.

Cutter's Way (KTLA Wednesday at 3 a.m.) Ivan Passer's unjustly neglected 1981 film unfolds much like a Ross MacDonald-Lew Archer mystery--and is set in Santa Barbara, like many of the Archer novels. Quietly, it becomes a powerful indictment of the plight of the neglected Vietnam veteran. With Jeff Bridges, John Heard and Lisa Eichhorn.

Monsieur Vincent (Bravo Thursday at 6 p.m., Friday at midnight) Celebrated Oscar-winning 1947 French film in which Pierre Fresnay was named best actor at Venice for his portrayal of Saint Vincent de Paul.
