Lynwood : Reward Set for Conviction of Killers of 94-Year-Old

August 20, 1992

The city is offering a $10,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the men who robbed and killed 94-year-old Gladys Grantz, a Lynwood resident for 45 years.

Grantz had just left a Security Pacific Bank branch on Imperial Highway at 10 a.m. Saturday when two assailants grabbed her purse. Grantz clung to her purse and was dragged along the street for about 150 feet when she hit her head on the pavement, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said.

Grantz was taken to Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center where she died of massive head injuries. Grantz had gone to the bank to get $2 bills, which she gave to her children and grandchildren as birthday presents.

The City Council also voted Tuesday to rename Constitution Park, located on State and Flower streets. It will become Gladys Grantz Park.
