Baldwin Park : Alcohol Permit Rejected

August 23, 1992

City Council members voted unanimously against an application for an alcohol sales permit, saying the city already has too many places that sell liquor.

The application, which had been recommended for approval by the city staff, was from the owner of a fish market in a small shopping center on North Maine Avenue. The applicant, David Tran, had asked for a conditional-use permit that would allow the sale of beer and wine. "There are three banks in this city of 70,000 people and 78 places where we can purchase alcohol," Mayor Fidel A. Vargas said Wednesday. "It seems to me there's a little bit of a problem there." Tran did not comment at the hearing.
