La Mirada : Day Laborer Task Force to Hold Its First Meeting

August 27, 1992

A 20-member task force is scheduled to hold its first meeting today to discuss the issue of day laborers soliciting work in a neighborhood near La Mirada Boulevard and Imperial Highway. The task force was set up by the City Council, which has asked the group to submit a list of proposed solutions within 90 days.

The group is made up of seven residents and three business people from the area where laborers gather, and 10 people from the city at large. Among other things, the task force will try to determine the scope of the problem and study the feasibility of establishing a controlled site where people may gather for jobs.
