October 04, 1992|CHARLES SMITH

The South Gate Rams girls' volleyball team charged over the Bell High Eagles three games to one Wednesday to remain undefeated while butting the Eagles from the unbeaten ranks in an Eastern League match at Bell.

After a come-from-behind, 16-14 win in the first game, the Rams (6-0 overall, 1-0 in league play) took two of the next three games by 15-5 scores. The Eagles (5-1 and 2-1) won the third, 15-12.

Junior Oneida Toscano led the Rams with three kills and one ace in the first game.

It took South Gate only 12 minutes to win the second game, thanks to senior Elva Barragan (three kills), and junior Margot Truyenque (one block, four kills).

Bell avoided a sweep with a gritty third game victory. Junior Rudi Percell had two blocks and three kills, including the game-winner.

South Gate scored 15 consecutive points to close out the fourth game. Senior Melissa Machado led the way with seven kills and one ace.
