In this election year it is only relevant to use the Clinton-Bush blame game to illustrate to West Hollywood citizens how they are being taxed to death.
In the last two years the city raised taxes 15 times. They raised fees on rent registrations, parking meters, taxi coupons and permit parking. Plus business-license tax and fees on everything from swimming pools to tennis courts.
Now our city manager is suggesting the ultimate tax, a utilities tax. It will hit everybody's pocketbook. Since cityhood, not even once our taxes and fees were cut. The council gives raises to employees, keeps expanding the city bureaucracy and financing social services to the tune of $6 million a year. We are being squeezed to death, and we are fed up. It is time for a recall.
