Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Corps of Engineers to Trim 2,600 Jobs

The Army Corps of Engineers will close division offices in five cities and cut 2,600 jobs in its first major reorganization in 50 years, officials announced. The Corps, the nation's largest engineering agency, employs about 40,000 military and civilian personnel nationwide. The first phase is set to begin in February, 1993, and is aimed at streamlining the Corps' complex network of headquarters and division offices.
