In response to "Can Women Be the Image of Christ?" by Terrance A. Sweeney, Commentary, Nov. 25:
I agree with so much of the article in reference to our lives revealing Jesus and what he was about, but I wondered when will the Catholic bishops and leaders wake up and see that if Mary was good enough to carry the son of God, Jesus Christ, as ordinary as any mother would, why can't women be ordained as priests or ministers of the church? When will they acknowledge that they are still living under the old laws, and teaching the traditions of men, the very things that Jesus was against with the religious leaders of his day? When it comes to the church and the ministry of Jesus, they need to put aside gender; there is neither male nor female, bond nor free--we are one in Christ.
