What Happened to News?

March 06, 1993

Rosenberg's article about Quint, along with his other articles in recent months about the demise of legitimate TV news, really hit the mark.

As a teacher of TV production (and a TV reporter for many years), I'm embarrassed at what I often see today. For the first time in my professional life, I'm finding it hard to defend TV news from a social-responsibility perspective, or to recommend it to students as a worthy profession.

Too bad. Before big business took it over, TV news used to represent an important and meaningful profession.
