How, what, when and where of kids' and family game shows:

Get the Picture: Tests contestants' visual perception, problem-solving skills and general knowledge. The game is played on a wall of video monitors that slowly reveal a giant picture. Airs Saturday 4:30-5 p.m. Nickelodeon.

Family Double Dare: Families answer trivia questions and dare each other to physical challenges. Kid contestants watch their parents complete the sloppy, sticky obstacle course. Airs Saturday and Sunday 6-6:30 p.m. Nickelodeon.

Family Secrets: Will feature two families competing against each other by providing the same answer as their children for a host-posed question. Contestants will be selected from an as-yet undetermined amusement park location. Airs weekdays, 10-10:30 a.m. KNBC, KMIR.

Guts: An all-stunt show with the segments "Jump Jump," where contestants leap 10- to 15-foot hurdles with an elastic band around them; "Longest Yard," where, with the same elastic band, contestants go for distance records; "Slam Dunk," with the same elastic band, kids jump from a 7-foot platform to an 11-foot-high hoop and try to make as many baskets as they can in 60 seconds. In "Wild Wheels," they ride tricycles and go through an obstacle course. In "Invisible Boat," contestants--suspended horizontally in a rolling harness above a pool--try to get across the pool with paddles. In the finale, three contestants climb a "mountain" of obstacles called "Aggro-Crag." Airs Saturday and Sunday 6:30-7 p.m. Nickelodeon.

Kid's Quiz: Two Southern California sixth-grade teams are pitted against each other in a quiz-show format. Contestants are selected by their elementary school teachers. Airs Saturday 6:30-7 a.m. KCBS.

Lip Service: Contestants lip-sync to popular video music tunes and are judged by a celebrity panel. Currently airing on a sporadic basis, the show will resume production on an as-yet unannounced date. Contestant information: MTV, 1515 Broadway, New York, New York, 10036. MTV.

Name Your Adventure: Allows teen contestants to fulfill fantasies. Participants are selected from letters submitted by youths throughout the nation. Airs Saturday 11-11:30 a.m. KNBC; 10:30-11 a.m. KMIR, KNSD.

Nick Arcade: Uses video game technology as two teams vie for control of an animated game board. Contestants answer general-knowledge questions and solve video puzzles. The winning team then goes inside a life-size video game. Airs weekdays 5-5:30 p.m. Nickelodeon.

That's My Dog: Pits a dog and its family against another dog and its family through an obstacle course and various other competitions. The show is scheduled to resume production shortly. Airs Saturday 10:30-11 a.m. and Sunday 6:30-7 p.m. the Family Channel.

What Would You Do?: An audience-participation show with parents and kids in which ordinary people respond to questions about extraordinary situations. The audience votes on how they think people will respond. Airs Monday through Friday 6-6:30 p.m. Nickelodeon.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?: Based on the popular computer geography game of the same name. Junior-gumshoe contestants answer geography questions as they try to trap Carmen Sandiego and her band of thieves. In the final round, the winner attempts to capture Carmen by identifying the countries she's run to on a gigantic floor map. Airs weekdays 5-5:30 p.m. KCET; 4-4:30 p.m. KPBS; 9-9:30 a.m. KOCE.

Wild & Crazy Kids: Features water-slide relay races, giant pushball games, kite jumping, and bizarre pet tricks. Airs 6:30-7 p.m. Nickelodeon.
