Sisterhood Proves a Valuable Bond

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Tired of the old-boy networks of corporate America, the women of Susquehanna University's business school have created a support group of their own.

The network doesn't include sports outings or hunting trips. It does include discussions on getting ahead and juggling home and career.

Susquehanna assigns mentors to students in the second semester of freshman year. Twenty-one students started the program this year; 18 last year.

"Women tend to think that 'If I'm doing a good job, someone will notice and I'll get my promotion,' " said Mary Cianni, a business professor who founded the program.

She hopes that graduates of the program will "grow up professionally" so they can be in the running for jobs that open up.
