L.A. Marathon

March 14, 1993

The Los Angeles Marathon is the finest example of the human behavior required to heal Los Angeles. The anonymous expressions of love and support for the athletes running the race brought tears to my eyes. It was astonishing to see thousands of spectators supporting total strangers to reach their goals. Why can't we do this for each other every day?

All along the route, the crowd and volunteers did what they could to offer assistance. Ice chips, water, fruit slices, mist bottles, music, applause and kind words of encouragement. Everyone had something to offer and it was heartfelt.
