GENEVA : Trade Talk

March 23, 1993

The United States will be the object of a series of unfair-trading complaints Wednesday when the governing council of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade holds one of its regular meetings.

The European Community will demand that GATT investigate the U.S. tax on luxury automobiles-- which, by the EC's reckoning, discriminates against imports.

Led by Brazil, U.S. trading partners will also try to head off Washington's threat of slapping duties on steel imports from 19 countries that, according to American officials, are "dumped" at below cost in the United States.
