Fire at Oregon Capitol

March 24, 1993|Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. — Fire forced the evacuation of the state Capitol on Tuesday, sending hundreds of workers, lobbyists and lawmakers onto the steps of the historic building. No injuries were reported, and people were allowed back into the Capitol two hours later. The fire was caused by smoldering lint in a fan in a utility room, officials said.
