This is regarding the article about the Pasadena Humane Society ("Putting on the Dog," March 15). It is wonderful that this privately owned organization, fueled by donations from compassionate people, has raised a few million dollars to improve conditions for homeless animals that end up there. It is beyond belief that anyone finds it "mind-boggling" or "howls" because animals receive some comfort at what is, more often than not, Death Row.
Do street people really dream of that for themselves? The majority of animals are still put to death because there are few qualified homes, while so-called pet enthusiasts (breeders) continue bringing more dogs and cats into the world while millions of surplus animals are being executed yearly. Animal breeders, not humane workers, deserve the wrath of those opposed to helping homeless animals.
