Veronica Chambers' review of Bruce Craven's novel "Fast Sofa" (Feb. 21) was both an embarrassment and a travesty.

After making the point that one should not judge a book by its cover, she does exactly that for a solid two-thirds of her article. When she does finally get to the book, she decides to take offense at the attitude of the protagonist, Rick, whose foul mouth may, as she says, be offensive.

But Rick is a character in the novel, not the author. Not only do characters in novels not need to be likable, they also don't need to be politically correct.
