Drive-By Slaying Victim Identified

March 30, 1993

LA HABRA — Police on Monday identified a teen-ager who was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting along a residential street.

Anthony DeJesus Lopez, 18, was walking by himself Sunday in the 500 block of South Clifton Street when a gunman leaned from a passing car and opened fire about 5 p.m., police said. Police found Lopez on the street shortly afterward and took him to Friendly Hills Regional Medical Center in La Habra, where he died, Lt. Wayne Lowry said.

Police said they do not know who shot Lopez or why but they believe the shooting was gang-related. Police were unable to say if Lopez had gang ties.

Investigators said they have not found any witnesses to the shooting, though some residents said they saw a car speeding away from the area and described it as a brown sedan.

Police asked that anyone with information about the killing call detectives at (310) 905-9750 or the department's anonymous gang-tip hot line, (310) 905-9797.
