THOUSAND OAKS : Burglars Strike School 3rd Time

March 30, 1993|DOUG McCLELLAN

Burglars have stolen two computers during three recent break-ins at Glenwood Elementary School on Windsor Drive in Thousand Oaks, authorities said.

During the most recent burglary March 21, thieves stole a Macintosh computer from the principal's office and ransacked desks and cabinets. They also painted gang graffiti on the walls and floor, according to the Ventura County Crime Stoppers.

The first break-in was Jan. 28, when burglars entered a classroom and unsuccessfully tried to steal a computer that was bolted to a table.

Instead, they took class attendance records.

On Feb. 27, thieves broke into a second classroom and stole a Macintosh computer. School officials were unavailable for comment, but Sgt. Kitty Hoberg of the East County Sheriff's Station said the incidents have unnerved students and staff members. Hoberg said authorities recognized the graffiti as belonging to a Thousand Oaks gang.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about the burglaries. People can call 495-TALK, 987-TALK or 986-TALK and leave information while remaining anonymous.
