Voicing Concerns Over Teen Pregnancy

March 31, 1993

The teen birth explosion is nothing short of tragic--for the pregnant teen-agers who are not equipped to parent, for their babies who will more than likely be trapped in dead-end lives and for our society.

But there's an option, which was conspicuous by its absence from your story.

Why not offer adoption counseling to these teens so they can learn the realities of parenting and learn how to make a plan that will benefit their babies and themselves? Open adoptions now involve having the young mother choose the family for her child and are available from reputable agencies.

Adoption offers a fresh start on life for the pregnant teen, the adoptive family and, most important, the child.
