Was Boating Accident a Signal for Baseball to Make a Big Change?

April 03, 1993

My previous perspective on Tim Crews ranged from sarcastic ("If Crews is pitching, the Dodgers must be down by 10") to insulting ("Crews is coming in? He should be in San Antonio"), but no longer. Crews was a legitimate major leaguer, not only in talent, but in heart as well.

Thanks to Bill Plaschke, I found out what a player, and, more importantly, a man Tim Crews really was. I'm just sorry I had to realize this too late. I am sorry I never cheered for Tim Crews, but I will cheer for that 10th pitcher now, not only for the 10th pitcher, but for Tim Crews.
