Free Speech

April 04, 1993

Everyone may have the right under the Constitution to have an opinion, but we have the right to expect some common sense in what is printed in your magazine. By printing Tocco's letter you made a huge mistake. You gave a fascist bigot his chance to have his name in print.

DAVID MARTIN

Studio City

Editor's note: We thought long and hard before publishing the letter, which we paired with others asking why we devoted space to Barbara Grizzuti Harrison's piece on Alessandra Mussolini and the specter of neo-fascism in Italy. The sentiments expressed in Tocco's letter, it seemed to us, answered the question. We regret if we offended any of our readers.
