Ill Will

April 04, 1993

I was not shocked to read of the appalling crimes against humanity committed by Germany's neo-Nazis. This type of hatred is as old as the societies and political institutions that inevitably cause it. And it will not cease as long as human beings continue to identify themselves as members of larger groups rather than as individuals. It is only through an understanding and awareness of the self, apart from groups and institutions, that respect for others can be achieved.
