$20-Million Arcadia School Bond Election

April 11, 1993

On April 20, the people in Arcadia will be voting in a school board and school bond election. The bonds will raise more than $20 million to provide some basic repairs to our 40-year-old school buildings. These bonds will cost the average Arcadia homeowner only $40 per year.

I have seen pictures of some of the areas at the high school to be repaired, and was shocked by their dilapidated condition--standing water in the boys' showers, leaking pipes, and jury-rigged electrical wiring. At the elementary school where my kids go, classrooms often flood in the rain, and the bathrooms are so dingy that some kids won't even go in there. Repairs are needed at all of the schools.

In these times of people across America decrying the educational system, the people of Arcadia have a chance to show that they support quality education by providing physically safe and attractive buildings. We already have committed teachers and administrators--the best, in my opinion. Now we need to tell the teachers and the students that Arcadia cares about education enough to do some basic repairs on the buildings.
