The Metropolitan Transportation Authority board voted Wednesday to conduct a two-month search for an inspector general, the person who will audit the proposed allocation of $183 billion to create a regionwide bus and rail network.
The position is seen by many as crucial to the integrity of the agency. As recently as last spring, the county's transportation agency officials came under fire for frivolously spending about $2 million on entertainment, retreats and travel.
