Glendale : Spa Seeks Parking Change

April 15, 1993

Bally's Holiday Spa Health Club is seeking an exemption to city parking rules so it can open a fitness center at 210 W. Lexington Drive in the downtown redevelopment zone.

The club last month filed for the exemption because the vacant building it plans to use has spaces for only 78 vehicles. Under the city code, 170 spaces are required.

Representatives of Glendale Federal Bank said health club customers would be allowed to use the bank's 281-space parking structure at Orange and Milford streets. Four metered city lots also are within one block of the proposed club.

However, several members of the Glendale Redevelopment Agency said the exemption would be one of the largest granted and asked that the city staff further study the proposal. A new parking survey is due late next month and the proposal is expected to return to the agency for action.
