1993 PREP BASKETBALL LOS ANGELES TIMES ALL-STARS : Southeast All-Star Teams Dominated by Seniors

SOUTHEAST AREA — Experience is a key ingredient on The Times' 1993 Southeast High School All-Star Basketball Teams. Seven players on the 10-member boys team and seven players on the girls team are seniors.

Erik Kennady, a junior at El Rancho, is the only underclassman from last year to repeat on the boys team this year. Other repeaters are Avondre Jones and Charles O'Bannon of Artesia and Kelly Hambrick of La Mirada. Jacobi Thompson of Compton, formerly of Pius X, was an all-Southeast selection last year.

The 1993 Southeast teams:

BOYS--6-5 senior guard/forward Daren Glaves of California, 6-7 junior center Ed Ellis of La Serna, 6-7 junior forward/center Erik Kennady of El Rancho, 6-0 1/2 senior guard Kelly Hambrick of La Mirada, 5-10 senior guard Steve Viruet of Bellflower, 6-11 senior center Avondre Jones, 6-7 senior forward Charles O'Bannon and 6-2 senior guard Shawn Caracoza, all of Artesia, and 6-6 junior forward Jelani Gardner and 6-5 senior forward James Cotton, both of St. John Bosco.

GIRLS--5-7 senior guard Laura Berg of Santa Fe, 6-0 senior center Tracy Mendoza of Pioneer, 5-10 senior center Kim Mason of La Serna, 5-7 junior guard/forward Melissa Ridge of St. Paul, 5-8 senior forward Sherise Sandoz of Pius X, 6-0 senior forward/center Bonnie Trejo of Downey, 6-1 junior center Tara Knesel of Bellflower, 6-0 senior center Ebony Charles of Artesia and 5-8 1/2 junior forward Aisha Veasley and 5-11 senior center Julie Bouma, both of Valley Christian.
