BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Greenberg Is Hired as Consultant

April 21, 1993|ROSS NEWHAN

Steve Greenberg, who recently stepped down as baseball's deputy commissioner, has been hired by the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles as a consultant on financial matters. Greenberg's primary role for those clubs will be to make a recommendation on enhanced revenue sharing among the 28 major league teams.

"At this point, it's not a question of whether I'm opposing or not opposing anything," Greenberg said of revenue sharing. "I'm just getting started. I do not consider what I'm doing as undermining what (the owners' player relations committee) is doing (in collective bargaining.) If anything, I hope to enhance or contribute to that effort."
