STANTON : Pact for Interim City Manager Authorized

April 22, 1993|WILLSON CUMMER

The City Council this week authorized City Atty. Thomas W. Allen to negotiate an agreement with the top candidate for interim city manager.

Five people applied for the post, and each was ranked in order of preference by the City Council during a closed-door session Monday night.

Each of the candidates has served as city manager in a California city, though none was identified.

"I thought we had a very good core of applicants," Councilman William C. Estrada said after the meeting.

The interim city manager will replace Terry Matz, who is leaving his post to take a job as city manager in Agoura Hills. His last day is April 29.

The interim city manager will start May 3, Estrada said. The council will meet tonight to select a search firm to find a permanent replacement for Matz, Mayor Don Martinez said.

Martinez said the search could take three to four months. During that time, the interim city manager will have to oversee the drafting of the 1993-94 budget and will probably supervise the move to the new Civic Center on Katella Avenue.

The interim city manager might also have to hammer out an agreement for one or more card clubs if city voters pass Measure A on the June 8 ballot.
