Jurisprudence

April 29, 1993|From Staff and Wire Reports

Heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe is dropping his suit to determine the paternity of a child alleged to be his son.

Bowe's manager, Rock Newman, said it was recently discovered the mother of the child previously filed paternity and child support suits in Brooklyn's King County Court.

A judge there determined in 1989 that Jefford Rice--also designated as the father of the child on the birth certificate--was the father of the child and ordered him to make support payments.

The statement says the mother, Kym Price, had come before that court several times to request increased child support while also receiving financial assistance from the North Carolina Child Welfare Support Agency.

Bowe, according to Newman, was "extremely disappointed to learn of the manner in which Kym is apparently using the child as a vehicle for her own financial benefit."
