Arantxa Sanchez Vicario of Spain beat Steffi Graf of Germany, 6-3, 6-3, Sunday at Hamburg, Germany, to win a Citizen Cup tennis tournament that was overshadowed by the stabbing of Monica Seles, the world's top-ranked woman player.

Graf, seeded No. 2, was seeking a record seventh consecutive title in Hamburg.

"It's been a difficult week, especially for me," Graf said. "I hope Monica gets well soon and gets over the whole thing."

"I hope she gets well soon and comes back," Sanchez Vicario said.

Seles was stabbed in the back Friday by a man described by police as a mentally disturbed Graf fan who could not stand seeing Seles dominate.

Graf visited Seles in the hospital Saturday, and the two cried together. Graf said the visit brought the two closer together.

Ivan Lendl beat Germany's Michael Stich, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3, at Munich, Germany, in BMW Open clay-court final.

Top-seeded Stefan Edberg of Sweden, tuning up for the French Open, defeated Spain's Sergi Bruguera, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, to win the City of Madrid Grand Prix clay-court tournament.

Jacco Eltingh of the Netherlands took command in the second set at Duluth, Ga., to beat Bryan Shelton, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2, for the title in the AT&T Challenge.
