Freshman guard Jason Kidd of California was among those named to the newest U.S. national basketball team, which will play a four-game series next month in Europe against teams preparing for the European Championship.

Also named to the team, which will be coached by P.J. Carlesimo of Seton Hall: centers Eric Montross of North Carolina and Bryant Reeves of Oklahoma State, forwards Michael Finley of Wisconsin, James Forrest of Georgia Tech, Grant Hill of Duke, Donyell Marshall of Connecticut and Glenn Robinson of Purdue, and guards Travis Best of Georgia Tech, Billy McCaffrey of Vanderbilt and Aaron McKie of Temple.

Forward Chris Webber of Michigan also was named to the team before he announced later in the day that he would make himself available for this year's NBA draft.

A replacement will be named.
