BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Parrish: From Albuquerque to Indians

May 09, 1993|MARYANN HUDSON

Lance Parrish, who was wallowing away at the Dodgers' triple-A club in Albuquerque, asked the team for his release so he could sign a major league contract with the Cleveland Indians on Friday. Parrish traveled to Chicago on Saturday to join the Indians, and went 0 for 3 against the White Sox.

Cleveland signed Parrish as insurance, because Sandy Alomar's back injury is questionable. But Parrish has no guarantee that he will stay with the club. The Indians have 30 days to decide if they want to keep Parrish. If not, then Parrish is a free agent.

At Albuquerque, Parrish batted .273 in 11 games and 33 at-bats, but he played minimally as a backup to starter Don Wakamatsu, who is batting .366.
