Dole's Leadership

May 12, 1993

Your feature (May 2) on Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) was a true indictment of the American political system as we know it. We have accepted patronage, corruption and pork-barrel politics as a way of life. "That's how it works."

But intentionally or not, reporter Karen Tumulty exposed Dole as the epitome of the sour grapes, obstructionist, egotist that he is.

His contention that he represents the "57% of Americans that voted against Bill Clinton" is insulting and ludicrous. He flagrantly wears as a badge of honor the fact that he personally wielded the garrote that strangled President Clinton's economic stimulus package. Whatever happened to that American-embraced axiom "give the guy a chance"?
