WESTMINSTER : Council Scales Down Bolsa Corridor Panel

May 12, 1993|ANDREA HEIMAN

The City Council has decided to reduce the size of the Bolsa Corridor Advisory Committee, following Councilman Tony Lam's suggestion that the committee would function better if it was smaller.

"The majority of the people either don't show up or show up but do not talk," said Lam, who is the council representative to the committee. "There is a lot of squabbling, which does not contribute to a workable committee."

The council voted last week to cut the panel membership from 20 to nine, plus the liaison from the City Council, who has no voting power.

The committee will now include a representative from each of the Greater Westminster and the Vietnamese chambers of commerce, two representatives from the business and professional community within the Bolsa Corridor area, three Bolsa Corridor property owners, one manufacturers' representative and one resident.

The committee was formed late in 1991 to determine ways of making the 1.5-mile Bolsa Avenue strip into a more profitable and sophisticated commercial area.
