NHL PLAYOFFS : Andreychuk Sparks Maple Leafs

May 12, 1993|From Associated Press

TORONTO — Left wing Dave Andreychuk, playing the best playoff hockey of his 11-year NHL career, scored his ninth and 10th postseason goals as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the St. Louis Blues, 5-1, Tuesday night to move within one victory of advancing to the Campbell Conference final.

Toronto leads the best-of-seven Norris Division final, 3-2, going into Game 6 Thursday night at St. Louis.

Nikolai Borschevsky, Bob Rouse and Glenn Anderson also scored against St. Louis goaltender Curtis Joseph, whose ordinary play in this game and in Game 4--a 4-1 Toronto victory Sunday at St. Louis--was in sharp contrast to his near-unbeatable performances during the first three games of the series.

Brett Hull managed the lone goal against Toronto rookie Felix Potvin, who outshone Joseph a second consecutive game.

Andreychuk equaled the club record by Lanny McDonald in 1977 for playoff goals in one year.
