In a spirit of cooperation, the Azusa Rock quarry and environmentalists who for months have fought to close the facility at the mouth of Fish Canyon will unite Saturday to clean up a popular hiking trail into the scenic canyon.
In the past, environmentalists have called for closing the quarry because Azusa Rock has restricted access to the trail.
Jim McJunkin, a leader of Save the Mountain, said Saturday's event shows a willingness of both sides to cooperate.
He said representatives of the company, environmentalists, the Boy Scouts and other volunteers will join the cleanup effort. Spring rains and mudslides had rendered the trail impassable.
