HOT SALES: Summer is one of the busiest times of year for booksellers. Nationwide last year, bookstores rang up $931 million in sales in August, just behind $1.2 billion in December. . . . This summer, look for an interesting twist to book promotions in Orange County. To kick off T. Jefferson Parker's new Laguna Beach-set thriller, airplanes will fly over beaches on July 4 trailing banners that read: "The heat is not the only killer this summer. Read 'Summer of Fear.' "
