May 18, 1993

Voice Powered Technology International Inc., a Canoga Park company that designs and sells portable voice-recognition VCR electronics products, reported a loss of $2.41 million for its first quarter that ended March 31.

The loss came on revenue of $4.45 million. No comparable results are available for the year-earlier period. Voice Powered, which was founded in 1990 and went public in October, was previously in a start-up phase and had no sales.

In all of 1992, Voice Powered said it lost $5 million on revenue of $1.75 million.

The company previously announced that Philips Consumer Electronics Co. has licensed Voice Powered's technology for four new Magnavox and Philips videocassette recorders.
