VENTURA COUNTY NEWSWATCH

May 18, 1993|Gary Gorman

STREAK ENDS: That slaying in Ojai over the weekend (B1) ended nearly 2 1/2 years without a homicide in the city--the longest such streak in the county. . . . Sheriff's Lt. Joseph Harwell, head of the Ojai Police Station, said the slaying "is indicative of what's going on in the rest of the county. We're not immune.". . . But Ojai is basically safe, said Harwell, a lifelong resident. Of the county's 10 cities, Ojai ranks sixth in crime rate, far behind the leaders. . . . Biggest problem: property crimes.
