Carol Amsler is known for putting a card or flower on the desk of a new Brea Olinda Unified School District employee as a first-day welcome. Brenda Thorpe is the district's central kitchen manager, but she works right along with the crews to prepare lunch for students.
Amsler and Thorpe, along with Rita Jones and Dean Lentini, have been named district employees of the year.
Amsler has worked at the district office for 13 years. She is usually at her desk before 8 a.m. and stays past 5 p.m., just one of the reasons district officials describe her as conscientious, professional and loyal.
