Camarillo's Laura Richardson outdueled El Toro's Misty Lauby, leading the Scorpions to a 2-0 victory on Thursday at El Toro and sending Camarillo into the Southern Section Division I semifinals.
Richardson (19-3), a senior right-hander, pitched a two-hitter and struck out five. Lauby struck out 13 for El Toro (18-13) and also allowed just two hits, including a triple by Julie Borchard that drove in Sarah DeWoody with Camarillo's first run in the fourth inning. Borchard scored later in the inning on a delayed double steal.
Camarillo (23-6) will meet Los Alamitos, a 1-0 winner over Marina in 22 innings, in Tuesday's semifinals.
North Torrance 1, Alemany 0--The Indians (22-8) threatened in the seventh and nearly forced extra innings, but Jamie Moore was thrown out at the plate to end the Division III quarterfinal game at Torrance.
Moore walked and was sacrificed to second by Tanya Ortiz. Carrie Edemann, who had two of Alemany's four hits, singled to right-center field with two out, but Moore was caught at the plate.
