Apartment Dwellers Need Help Recycling

June 06, 1993

I've noticed that there are inserts throughout the Los Angeles Times encouraging people to "recycle for an abundant future."

For some residents of the San Fernando Valley, particularly homeowners, recycling is made convenient by the city providing separate receptacles for newspapers, glass and plastic containers and, of course, trash.

Those of us who reside in apartment buildings have two choices in discarding waste: either throw everything in the provided dumpsters or transport materials to be recycled to the nearest facility. This act can be quite time-consuming for those citizens who have very busy schedules. Also, many people are just too lazy to drive to the recycling centers.

In this day and age of Earth awareness, more should be done to facilitate recycling, especially among the millions who rent apartments.
