SHARE Nets $1 Million at Anniversary Party

SHARE(Share Happily and Reap Endlessly) Boomtown Show on May 8 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium celebrated the organization's 40th anniversary and raised more $1 million for those who are physically or mentally challenged and without financial resources. Social service agencies benefiting over the years have included Exceptional Children's Foundation, Five Acres, Hathaway Children's Services, Jeffrey Foundation, Tuesday's Child and the SHARE Parenting Project at UCLA.

Venice Family Clinic entertained more than 4,000 guests at the Venice Art Walk '93 on May 22 and 23. The event netted $425,000 to help pay for comprehensive health care for uninsured poor and homeless families. Sheila Goldberg and Laura Maslon chaired the fund-raiser.

Orthopaedic Hospital netted $23,000 at its April 12 "Play for the Children" golf tournament at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale. Proceeds will help provide free care for children with bone, nerve and muscle disorders.

People Assisting The Homeless raised $65,000 at its May 6 luncheon honoring Gloria and David L. Wolper at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. Art Buchwald was keynote speaker. Denise Taylor Avchen and Judy Stakee chaired the benefit.

Los Angeles Regional Foodbank will upgrade its Extra Helpings Program with a $10,000 grant from Northrop Corp. The program channels surplus prepared food from restaurants, hotels and caterers to participating charities. In 1992, 90 charities in Los Angeles County benefited.

The Wellness Community received $15,000, proceeds raised at the May 16 Sheila Ruth Memorial Art Auction in Santa Monica. The benefit was hosted by Joanne King-Kramer and friends of Ruth, a Santa Monica artist who died in 1991. Wellness Community provides free psychosocial support for people with cancer and their families.

American Diabetes Assn., Los Angeles chapter, netted $47,500 at its 11th annual Celebrity Waiters Brunch and Auction April 24 at the Denim and Diamonds Restaurant in Santa Monica. Eliott Kahn was chair. Proceeds will be used for research and education.
