Mass Transit System Set for Jakarta: Work will begin next year to ease the capital's polluted, traffic-choked streets, according to a report in the official Antara news agency. The $3-billion project is expected to take more than 20 years to complete and will provide a light-rail transit system--some of it underground--for Jakarta, its international airport and suburbs. The sprawling capital is prone to heavy traffic jams, and vehicle emissions are the main culprit for the city's air pollution.
