Gardener's Checklist

June 27, 1993

For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week: * Water tomatoes, melons and cucumbers deeply every 5-7 days for large crops. * Use a 3-4 inch layer of mulch around shrubs and trees to reduce the need for frequent watering. Mulching also retards weed growth. * Feed citrus and avocados with a good citrus food on a monthly basis. * Deep water and fertilize with a root irrigator. Deep watering will help prevent leaf drop on evergreen trees during the summer heat.
