Paramount : Stretch of Alondra Reopens After Yearlong Closure

July 08, 1993

A half-mile stretch of Alondra Boulevard in Paramount reopened this week after being closed for a year as crews cut a trench so the street could run underneath railroad tracks.

A small ceremony marked the reopening of Alondra between Paramount Boulevard and Garfield Avenue and the final stretch of a $7-million road improvement project. All that is left to complete the project is its landscaping and pump system, Deputy City Manager Patrick West said.

The boulevard now dips under Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The project was undertaken to keep long freight trains from blocking emergency vehicles and traffic on the heavily used boulevard, West said.
